ArtSpace is created by teaching artist Minh Singer and gallery owner May Wong.
Starting out as weekend art classes operating out of Above Second gallery on 31 Eastern St, Sai Ying Pun,our classes are Hong Kong’s best kept secret - a community of artists, children, parents and caregivers making discoveries together.
Our mission is to extend the benefits of the arts to all children and their communities and to secure the future of the arts
by inspiring and championing the next generation of artists and art lovers.
We work to fulfil our mission by providing authentic hands-on art experiences for children with teaching artists, both in our art-filledinteractive gallery / studio, in the community, and by collecting and exhibiting children’s art.
Our Address: 31 Eastern St, Ground Floor, Sai Ying Pun

Minh’s Teaching Philosophy.
Let me tell you a little about myself. I graduated with a BFA from Pratt Institute in New York. My major was Art Education and I have over two years of
experience in art and museum education in New York, working with a diverse population ranging from toddlers to adults to children with learning disabilities.
I am inspired by my students’ enthusiasm for art and will do what it takes to keep them passionate about what they are doing. Open, honest and constructive communication, as well as encouragement is paramount for students in their development of acquiring artistic skills no matter what age they are.
Self-confidence can be formed through doing art. This is the foundation for students to take responsibility for their own learning and the formation of their own identities.
I like to develop a curriculum in which the students get to experience a variety of art mediums and techniques, which gives them an opportunity to play and experiment. The process to me is just important as the finished product. I actively document the students working, I pay attention to their interests, and design lessons that are inspired by their passions, turning their ideas into their actions. Connecting their art making to the gallery exhibitions, art history, and design can bring students to new, exciting, and meaningful places in their learning. LIfe and art is inseperable. Art teaches critical life skills such as creative problem solving, visual communication, spontaneity, personal expression, it is therapy, aesthetics, and being aware of the world.
The gallery studio space is a perfect setting to self-discovery and personal development. In my classes, students transform into artists as soon as they enter the gallery. This place is a community, which welcomes creativity and individual thinking.
